Sketch & Solid

The CAD modelling loop, from an empty work plane: sketch a profile in 2D, extrude or revolve it into a solid, then cut and combine solids with booleans. Pick a plane (XY, XZ or YZ), draw lines, polylines, rectangles, circles and arcs with grid, vertex and edge snapping and inferred horizontal/vertical locks, and close a profile to extrude it along the plane normal or revolve it around the plane axis. Extrude reads the whole sketch: loops drawn inside another loop become holes, so a plate and six circles is one solid with six bolt holes rather than seven operations, and two separate outlines extrude as two bodies. Generated solids are first-class scene objects, so picking, transform, measure and export all work on them, and union / subtract / intersect (via the assistant or the Boolean section in Studio) re-evaluate from a persisted recipe rather than a baked mesh. Ships with an empty sketch and no geometry — unlike the archived demo plates it replaces, which shipped a block, a bore and an L-bracket you had to delete first. In the design-first workflow the solids go to an inspection as a faceted STEP (their triangles, in millimetres: a hole is facets, not a cylinder), and its deviation figures come back here as metric cards.
