Corkboard
A pinboard you actually pin things to, and then run string between. Pin notes, photos, links and headings anywhere on a cork wall, drag them into place, and connect any two cards with a thread you can label — the investigation board, where the argument is the layout and the string is the reasoning. Drop image files straight onto the board and they are pinned where they land; drop or paste a URL and it becomes a link card, or a photo if it points at one. Double-click any card to type in it. Cards live at absolute board coordinates and the board pans and zooms under them, so nothing rearranges itself when the window changes size. Arrange puts a board that has outgrown its layout back into a grid, and Fit brings the whole wall back into view. Everything — every card, every thread, the surface itself — is state, so a board can be written by an agent, published as a link, and read back. A board can also be PRESENTED: capture slides that each frame a named set of cards, and the published vizlet gets prev/next navigation through them while the pinning tools stay behind in Studio.
